café 232 has great food, and their lunch specials even come at a good deal,
without any sacrifice of the quality or flavors.
we got bibimbap and vegetable curry(korean style) over rice, both of which
were so delicious - i never thought i'd eat curry and expect it to taste fresh.
but because of their vegetables not having been overcooked and tasting fresh,
they were able to make me actually think that. so good!

some unfortunately bland (not bad but not good either) food at clinton park café.
my veggie sandwich (which i admittedly didn't expect it to taste any other way than bland
to begin with, to be fair) and m's tuna wrap, which seemed a bit too mayo-y.
the best things to get there, i believe are the burgers.

i made some spicy tofu kimchi stir fry with leftover sour kimchi in the fridge,
adding in some tinned salmon we had in the pantry. with some sides of avocado
and cucumber, we wrapped them all up (ssam) in lettuce and korean roasted seaweed,
with brown rice to accompany it all.
we were so stuffed afterwards yet not disgustingly full with food like this.

craving veggies & some clean food, i cooked miso kale soup with mushrooms,
and m made this amazing stir fry of okra & brussels sprouts, with garlic and tomatoes.
i even put some avocado over rice, and we couldn't get up after finishing the food.
so good!

i baked quiche! well, crustless quiche with kale, onions, and dried mushrooms.
we topped it later with some fresh tomatoes, and it was pretty decent.
next time i will use a little less milk and it might be yummier.

then for dinner, we tried 3 luigis for the first time in about 3-4 years :

got a huge spread of : antipasto salad, 2 slices of margherita pizza, and a philly steak sub
for m. i remember the salad to have a lot more greens, a lot less dressing - still tasty, but a bit
much for me. the pizza, though not as good as ones from our other favorite place, was still
quite decent, with thin crisp crust. the hoagie was so giant, but m liked it and i thought
the couple bites i had was yummy. i don't know how he finished it!
now i am conked out.

delicious tomato sauce pasta with kale & garlic - we ran out of our regular pasta,
so had to use a bag of tinkyada brown rice pasta that i had bought when i was gluten-intolerant
for about a year - it wasn't as bad as some other gluten-free pastas, but not as good as regular ones.
m's sauce saved the day!

huge dinner at cafe 232 korean - now definitely becoming our go-to, favorite
korean place, unless we make it to cho dang gol in k-town.
we got ojing-uh bokum (spicy stir fried squid), codfish maeuntang, and kimbap,
a korean kind of maki-rice roll that i'd been craving lately.
they even gave us a bowl of makkoli, a sake-like rustic korean rice wine, which we'd never
had before, but was much smoother and lighter than i thought.

so happy and full!

burger feast at clinton park café - mushroom swiss and veggie burgers,
with french fries and sweet potato fries respectively.
their veggie burger and sweet potato fries are ace, and a really good deal,
since they're so huge.

and it must be springy time. these cats have been sleeping most of the day!

tried the new location of hanco's vietnamese in brooklyn heights, in which
they offer pho, not available at other locations (that i know of).
the pho was, unfortunately, just so-so - it lacked the depth of layered flavors
at other places, even their competitor, nicky's, let alone chinatown.
their banh mi i got today was a veggie chicken, which was decently good, but
definitely not as good as their bergen street location.
i have to say, though, their summer roll was especially good, all crunchy with
fresh flavors.

overly filling middle eatern food at zaytoons - lentil soup, falafel wrap
and a shish kebab (lamb) wrap.
they were decently good, but somehow i had a hard time feeling comfortable
after eating - not just from fullness but maybe something in the bread or the falafel
was indigestible. :(

pretty much the same meal as this - a really good thai dinner at manee.
this time we skipped the fried banana dessert, and stuck with the tom yum kung,
red tofu curry, and seared striped bass in garlic sauce.
the curry was definitely better last time (green, chicken) but that seared bass is
just so, so good.

mmm tepango does it again - i can never pass up their tinga (chipotle chicken) torta,
it's just too good. and m tried their mole poblano chicken, which seemed pretty dang good too.

in the middle of a painting storm, to stop feeling like a machine, i took a break to make
a proper lunch for myself. there was some mungbean saifun noodles in the cupboard that
i bought a long time ago to try it out, and today i did by making some korean style cold
bibim noodles with fridge ingredients - kimchi, carrots, cucumbers, dried mushrooms
and the garlicky spicy hot sauce i made for it. it was so addictive all mixed up that i ate
up the overestimated amount i'd made by accident. oops.

salmon burger and roasted beef panini at choice market.
we are often reluctant to go there, for many reasons, but i have to admit their
sandwiches and burgers are decent and combine good flavors and ingredients.
the salmon burger has pickled ginger and miso sauce, making it taste extra umami.

birthday dinner for m at café 232 - i can definitely say now this is the best korean
food i've had in brooklyn so far. i dare say it's even par with some restaurants on manhattan's
k-town!
we got dak-gui (spicy bbq chicken breasts) and codfish maeuntang, a brothy fish soup.
the maeuntang was lightly spicy and really refreshingly brothy, with chunks of codfish meat.
the green topping the soup is naengi, a very fragrant watercress-like wild plant often eaten in the springtime in korea. so good.

the spicy chicken was surprisingly good as well - next time we'll try their soy sauce version.

dinner : manhattan clam chowder (from can, of course) and some amazing cabbage
stirfry m made with garlic, salmon flakes, carrots, and topped with tomatoes & cilantro.
who knew cabbage could be so delicious?
