hudson valley labor day weekend :

Day 1.

saturday of the labor day weekend, we packed our bikes into a shortline bus
and headed up to poughkeepsie -then we rode our bikes for about extra 11 miles
to new paltz, to an apartment we had rented for the weekend on main street.

finally feeling relaxed after having ridden in complete darkness for an hour,
we walked over across the street to new paltz indian restaurant,
where we had a hilarious meal of 4 dishes that look the same in a photo :

Day 2.
some veggies (huge chard) at the house we stayed :

a nice breakfast on day 2 morning at main course across the street :

veggies/grains on salad and salmon scramble, 2&2 for the four of us.
we left to go to storm king after, a very hilly 3+ hour, 26 mile ride.

after biking back to NP, we got to try the tasty burritos at mexicali blue,
and their huge array of salsa/hot sauce!

Day 3 :

after spending some cozy night and late morning sleep,
we ate some breakfast at karma road.

veggie burger:

breakfast burrito :

quinoa oatmeal (sounded great but it was cajun spiced, too spicy for fruit!) :

then after exploring NP a bit, we headed back to poughkeepsie to catch our bus back
to manhattan, we got to go over this beautiful pedestrian bridge over the hudson.

a long, rocky bus ride always leaves us famished and in need of some comfort food.
we ended up at tasty handpulled noodles and ate too much (but so good!) :

noodles with veggie broth, tofu, and one with eggs, and another (not pictured) with eel.

supercore dinner is always deliciously satisfying but not overly filling.
my yummy miso-ni (miso glazed salmon) and matthew's meatballs.

brunch at hope & anchor before our opportunistic (car week!) journey to fairway market.
my french toast, matthew's omelette, and audrey's non-huevos-rancheros (just tortilla with egg, obviously).
so so but at least it's really reasonably priced there.

then lemon poppyseed cake & "sweet and salty" cupcake at baked, post-fairway.
they were delicious - especially the cupcake was perfection!

a day excursion to flushing - main st & union st (=chinese & korean).
after walking around and looked long for something appealing to our appetite,
but almost by default ended up at a place called Jang Tuh BBQ off union.
spicy squid & mae-un tang were quite delicious
(though not amazing) while eating,
but unfortunately my body can't seem to handle such spicy, salty foods anymore,
(and possible msg and other delicious chemicals)
so i had to nurse my achy stomach all night afterwards.

this patbingsoo sure was tasty at paris baguette,
but not sure if it helped my tummy or made it worse,
despite it feeling good to eat at the moment.

and these neon pig signs were near ubiquitous (hmmmm...) :
montreal trip day 4 :

great breakfast at café olimpico - perfect allongé and latte with chocolate croissant.

went to a vietnamese place, milani, thinking to get a banh mi,
but it ended up being for takeout only so we settled for their
grilled dishes with vermicelli noodles.

spicy chocolate chip cookie with allongés after lunch.

indian food at la porte de l'inde for dinner before leaving town.
as it was the first time a couple years ago, it was amazing.

montreal trip day 3 :

breakfast at chez jose - we were iffy about having found it on yelp
and it being in a touristy area, but it really was amazing food there for cheap.
the coffee was excellent and the omelette and my vegetarian pâté sandwich was perfection.

then we went for thrift shopping all over (great finds) and to get beer samplers after
at st. ambroise brewery - 6 small glasses for $8.50!

our friends hosted a potluck style taco party at their house,
which i failed to photograph due to being busy stuffing my face.

montreal trip day 2 :

our 2nd day started with sandwich/soup combos at soupesoup,
they were so simple but well made and delicious.

then bike ride down to verdun and the bird sanctuary there,
followed by sushi afterwards - the sushi was so great, fresh and cheap.
hence the amount of food on the table!

and some bags of milk at the supermarché :

montreal trip day 1 :

i'll spare myself and the world from the awful meal we had in troy, NY, mid-drive to montreal,
and go straight to the awesome first meal after we got there and met up with our canadian friends.

we went to croissanterie figaro in mile end district :
my tofu burger was so great, and so seemed all the other food we ordered.
and we even shared some fresh baked bagels on our walk back at the famous fairmount bagel,
which i didn't get around to photographing fast enough before they all disappeared.

lunch at nha toi - basa fish (catfish?) banh mi, and their sweet & spicy chicken banh mi special,
with sides of pho broth and spicy bok choy fred provided us on the house. :)
a-mazing as always.
