brothy kalgooksoo (knife cut noodles) with dumplings and kimchi
at home - the best thing to eat on a night of -1ºF!

natto & kimchi over rice for dinner.
favorite fermented healthy foods!

simple and amazing lunch at supercore...
tofu hamburg, egg salad, and avocado.

then a sunny springy bike ride around looking at furniture
and running into a cat apartment i hadn't noticed before.
so sweet!!

a day of cold rain & wind (despite a warmer temperature) is a good day to cuddle up indoors at a cozy spot, like a neighborhood coffee shop, drinking coffee, playing crossword puzzles and sketching for hours.

we did exactly that today, ending with a nice meal of veggie burger & beef burger.
looking forward to the sunny (and no slushy streets) day tomorrow for once!

we rode our bikes into chinatown for dinner (a so-called nyc jewish christmas tradition),
but even the plan b places were packed so we opted for the unknown,
yee li, for peking duck and veggies, which happened to be a pretty gross
experience overall - greasy food, cockroach falling from the ceiling (really),
crazy people (grownups) playing chopstick drums the whole time.

despite the bad experience, some sesame bubble tea
and a fun ride through the rain washed it off our palate, thankfully!
merry christmas!

a nice cozy dinner on christmas eve at dokebi,
with my perennial favorites, dukboki and gyoza.
then a slushy bike ride through the city,
ending a nice evening with some japanese desserts
and yuzu tea at panya.
slushy snow ride was fun, despite my flat that set us back
about 40 minutes patching it up in the cold.

snowed in (bike-wise) for a couple days.
what's better during our first snow storm than grilled cheese with tomato kale soup?
NOTHING!

happy holidays everyone!

snow day!!
a nice walk through the snow to feed a friend's super cute kitties,
then a stopover to get some coffee and xword.
our walk back home was so much snowier, and now it's a few inches on our windowsill.
yay the first real snow this winter (and at our current place) - so exciting and pretty!

one of my favorite shops in the city, evolutions, never fails with some visitors either.

then a nice, warm lunch meal at supercore with our visitors. :)

i love scouring a bikeable distance around the neighborhood
for daily ny times crossword puzzles.
i've been able to score & finish one everyday this week so far and all of the last!
so nice to cuddle up inside with a cup of coffee & puzzles.

ahhh boneshakers is so light yet ever so satisfying!
bagel sandwich with avocado & bbq sandwich below.

late night bike ride & desserts & conversation at french roast.
warm chocolate cake & crème brûlée.
it was quite balmy around 38-40ºF tonight after all that windstorm the past couple days!

grilled cheese with roasted red pepper tapenade from trader joes!
it would've been even better if we had some tomato soup at hand.

fun home cooked veggie dinner & movie (food inc - appropriately) night.
julia made a great casserole dish with apples and squash!

+ btw, the movie is highly recommended - it wasn't anything any of us there were not too familiar with through michael pollan books, but still shocking to see them in a documentary format. also highly recommended is the corporation.

supercore recently launched a new lunch special menu
that i've fallen in love with.

today we went to try their weekend brunch menu,
which is a platter of 3 choices, mine being :
tofu hamburg, egg salad, and avocado.

made my day and cleared my memory of the bad food the other day.

lunch specials at our old favorite place, taro sushi, was sadly disappointing.
the kara-age (fried chicken) came pale beige, nowhere near GBD(golden brown & delicious).
the result was a mealy floury texture - gross!
my chirashi bowl was better, just not great as it used to be.

i've been on a non-mea t food kick lately possibly due to
all the heavy food i'd been eating during and prior to thanksgiving.

today's choice was breakfast sandwich and the "merckx werckx" at bone shakers.
they have the best vegan sandwiches in the world.
and vegan cookies!!

late lunch at dokebi - tried their mexican-korean brunch menu.
the "huevos koreanos". despite the cheeky name, it was quite good!
i had the regular favorite, mushroom bibimbap, but in hot stone bowl.

back from a short trip for thanksgiving.
it was quite a short trip, unfortunately...
despite all the deliciousness and warmth of all of us together,
it was a sad first thanksgiving without paul...

veggie bibimbap i made last night.
with fresh arugula, steamed and seasoned kale (2 kinds), kimchi, and eggs (lost).
craving greens lately.

despite dokebi being our go-to place for korean food in brooklyn,
we found out that williamsburg cafe on wythe turned korean while biking one day.
so we went to give it a shot - a HUGE place, with us and another table,
i guess it was an early dinner time on a wednesday.

we got the spicy pork bbq dish and a dwenjang jigae.
the pancakes (i think mungbean pancakes??) were free.

the food was just okay. nothing amazing.
especially since dokebi has amazing soups/stews,
and the last spicy bbq pork i had was in sunnyside,
which was amazing - so this was a bit of a let down.

they have sushi rolls though, which were decent!
(didn't get to photograph them)

i haven't been documenting my food as much as i'd like lately... :(
amazing hand pulled noodles on doyers street in chinatown,
one of my favorite streets/alleyways in the nyc.
they even brought us fresh cilantro later as toppings.
fresh hand pulled noodles with eel (top) and fujianese wonton(bottom).
