baked egg with tomato, basil & smoked paprika for breakfast.
with apple as dessert. all courtesy of our CSA share.
amazing how filling one egg can be!

can't get enough of eat lately. the always farm fresh, wholesome, new menu
keeps us coming back for more.
today, salad, summer vegetable soup, spelt bread,
and wholegrain spelt & eggplant salad - so good!

my jaded eyes only just realized at my 3rd visit that the chili peppers hanging
above were NOT plastic and actually real peppers & herbs hanging to be
dried.

csa salad - greens, kale, mushroom, sweet pepper, smoked tofu, potatoes, tomatoes.
simple and yummy.

early dinner at menkuitei - hiyashi chukamen
and shoyu ramen, with a gigantic quart can of asahi.

wholesome, good food can be always expected at ash box.
egg salad sandwich and salami/sundried tomatoes sandwich.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

over-abundant meal at sapporo haru.
not the best food, but a good fix for some nights' cravings.
i think they were going more for quantity though.
sushi deluxe set and m's chicken katsu-don. so gigantic!!

after an amazing genius bar appointment (they replaced my iphone -thank you!!!),
we had a very clean, simple lunch at ciao for now - quinoa tabouli & matthew's chicken salad sandwich.

then escaped amidst working/painting for a quick meal at supercore.
my miso-ni (sweet miso sauce salmon) was a bit too much food
and on the sweet side, still good nonetheless :

my latest kick - baked eggs for breakfast.
today with swiss cheese, bit of yogurt, tomato & basil.
a bit of paprika goes a long way.

second time eating at Eat - i love the clean, home made, modestly spiced
taste of their delicious food, and how everything is sourced in the north east
and mostly locally (foregoing certain ingredients if not available around here,
such as coffee and sugar).

3 small dishes was enough to get us satisfied, all at $4 each.
roasted turnip, kale & carrots, potato & kale soup,
and their spelt crust pizza with tomato, garlic and spelt berries.
so yummy & kind to your stomach.

impromtu potluck at audrey's for her birthday (kind of).
julia made pasta with csa veggies & kale,
and yasa brought babycakes cupcakes, on top of audrey's home baked ones,
and my contribution of tofutti cuties, we had dessert overload!
so good, so good, except for me feeling too full - about 9/10 full.

after getting completely soaked riding into the city obviously
during the wrongest time of the supposed tornado to pick up our CSA share,
we stopped by for some hot soup to warm ourselves up at pho bang.
my seafood egg noodle soup and some sweet & sour salmon soup.

then a little stop for a coffee & bread pudding at oro bakery around the corner :

the dark lump is the croissant bread pudding with strawberries and chocolate syrup.
i normally am not a fan of bread puddings,
but this one was perfect - not soggy at all,
chocolate sauce was on the side to be poured on,
not too sweet - amazing!

amazing carrot salsa with tomato, carrots, bell peppers, and scotch bonnet peppers from csa.
so good - who knew carrots would be so good in salsa!

yesterday's food at grey dog, while pretty decent, made me crave
some clean yummy food.
so we went to boneshakers, and clean and yummy it was!
my tempeh avocado salad (called quicksilver) was ace,
and merckx werckx always is.

Monday, September 13, 2010

quick bite at grey dog in west village (one of our old favorites).
portobello salad (not what i imagined, but still good) and cheese/ham/bacon sandwich.
hmmm... made me miss boneshakers badly!

luckily we headed to our friend audrey's after
where she baked me this amazing sour cream coffee cake for my birthday.
i'd been raving about it for years after tasting it once upon a time.
isn't she sweet??

it tasted even better cold (what??) the second day with coffee..
this overly yellow-tinged iphone photo doesn't do it justice.
thank you audrey!

a nice mellow birthday with misty rain, short bike rides, and long walks.
finally checked out champs family bakery, vegan bakery by bone shakers folks.
their oatmeal chocolate cookie was good, cupcake was fine but frosting wasn't,
but their danishes are amazing!!! (not pictured due to... fast inhaling)

we meant to go to sui ren for food but found out that they were closed.
so we went to dokebi and had something different.
kimchi pajeon for appetizer, spicy nakji bokum and kimchi stew :

they were all so tasty, but much much much too much food
and much much too spicy & salty for our stomaches.
yikes!!

paulie gee's pizza never disappoints.
arugula shmoogula, mariana (cheeseless w/ garlic/tomato), and fig/prociutto/gorgonzola pizza.
all amazing even as vegan versions & perfect amount for 4 people.
paulie gee even came out himself to recommend chili oil in lieu of daiya,
which turned out great.

an epic food day started with amazing cappuccino, iced americano,
and a simple cheese sandwich at glass shop cafe.

then, brooklyn museum for kiki smith & andy warhol shows,
after which we headed to redhook for more food.

my vegetarian portobello blt sandwich, matthew's mushroom swiss burger at hope & anchor.

then late at night, we tried real food at pies 'n thighs :

matthew's pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac 'n cheese,
my "super bowl" with 3 sides and a biscuit.
toooo much food, too rich for me - i had a terrible stomach later.

and the guava cheesecake must've been days old.
it was very rubbery. not recommended at all.
should've gotten their chocolate peanut butter pie or banana cream.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

late night dessert run - key lime pie at pies n thighs.
very yummy!

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

randomness from today.
kimchi stew & multi grain rice for lunch at dokebi (to soothe my sore throat),
mint chip ice cream from van leeuwen,
then home made kale chips (amazing use of wilted old kale).
