happy hour tapas ($3-$4 per plate!) at olea.
artichoke falafels, anchovies, herbed yogurt dip with whole wheat pita,
lamb meatballs, home fried potato with chipotle aioli. good bread.

mabo tofu over rice and shoyu ramen.
reliably good food at menkuitei (not the one in midtown, though)

after a cold bike ride around queens, we took a random stop at a thai restaurant
to feed our famished tummies.
and what a decent place it turned out to be - the pad thai, three different curries
(massaman, green & red) as well as the spring rolls, tom yum kung, and papaya
salad (not pictured) really hit the spot for us.

some photos of the day prior to the food :

we stayed in the city for thanksgiving this year and had dinner at jenny's!
so impressed how they pulled all this together into such a great meal and get together.

amazingly good, 11 side dishes and turkey all together - all homemade from scratch!
(except for the booze and the greenpoint style polish pumpkin pie)
my stomach hurt all evening from eating so much and laughing till tears came rolling down.
thanks, jenny, erin, tim, alex, anne & johnny!!

tomato salad (insalata di pomotori) at la nonna's.
after we had huge slices of pizza, that is.
so refreshing and delicious, and all it was was tomatoes, onions, and thick balsamic vinegar.

hand made cheese grater on their wall.

late dinner quick pasta.
whole wheat farfalle, copious amount of garlic, EVOO, butter,
chili flakes, our csa broccoli, tomatoes, and peccorino romano.
so simple, so satisfying!
recap of the day.

americano at la colombe :

4 wild ginger lunch specials : mine was black pepper soy protein with chinese broccoli.
excellent :

wandering around nyu neighborhood, discovering art.
good exhibits to check out here and here :

boneshakers lunch with friends.
their recently added faux "tuna" melt on sourdough ciabatta was excellent.
merckxx werckxx is always spot on.

we ventured out to greenpoint "nature walk" (by the creek, with views of waste management plant).
awesomeness! :

after seeing this and having an abundance of cooked squash in our fridge,
i baked it today with comté cheese, butter, paprika and an egg on top.
it was so good & filling for breakfast!
i should try it again without the cheese but maybe greek yogurt.

and some mediocre peach danish after dinner from a neighborhood bakery :

(it was necessary to beautify it a bit through an app).

a perfect day (even if we spent peak brunch time in manhattan on a saturday).

winter CSA pick up, la colombe coffee,
simple, yummy brunch at ciao for now (after getting turned around at many places),
and amazing salad dinner from our CSA veggies :
kale, tatsoi, baby choy, lettuce make the best salad greens!
topped with tomatoes, scallion, comté cheese, carrots, sardines,
dressed in simple vinaigrette i made.

tempeh enchiladas at papacitos.
the picture is very blurry but it doesn't matter, because the food was just mediocre at best.

we keep trying to find the old glory back at papacitos but it seems it's about time we gave up.
:(

however, m baked our CSA squash (butternut and acorn) from a few weeks ago,
and was that good!

i had mine with a little agave nectar and comté cheese, salt, olive oil & smoke paprika,
topped with flat leaf parsley.
so yummy! ♥

eat is my place to go for clean, wholesome, homemade kind of food.
parsnip, turnip & vegetable soup, polenta with black bean and greens,
handmade (he rolled the dough and cut it while we were sitting!) whole wheat pasta
with radish greens and beets.
so good.

magic!!

our usual go-to place for falafel a block away from us mysteriously disappeared
without us having noticed!
so despite not feeling too super, we walked a few more blocks to try another falafel
place, kestane kebab - luckily, it was better than the vanished place!

the gyro wrap, red lentil soup and my gigantic falafel sandwich.
huge amount of yummy food, for so cheap.

kale salad with runny egg yolk.
mm mmmmmm~

craving something warm & spicy, we went to dokebi for korean food.
we shook things up a bit and ordered gyoza and nakji bokum,
a hot spicy octopus dish with noodles and vegetables.
so good it hurt!
