another favorite meal at dokebi.
good bye, feburary!

another so-so brunch at BAD burger.
my buckwheat pancakes with eggs and bacon were good,
but the burger was said to be just very middle of the road.

pancakes, with such a nice chewy texture, and eggs seem the best bet there.

and some freshly made punk rock snowmen at the park below.

super fast thrown-together dinner.
black beans, potatoes, eggs with salmon salad (with biscuits) on top,
and just black beans with the salmon salad at the bottom.
maybe a bit odd of a combination but damn good!

some salmon chazuke with the nurungji rice my mom made
and sent to me last week.
so good when the crispy bits get a little soggy, making it like
al dente pasta - perfectly toasty for such a cold snowy day.

yummy brekkie dinner tonight at home.
i made the kale salad with purple cabbage (so good) and baked a yam;
and m cooked the organic turkey sausage from the green market
this past weekend - and some over easy eggs and baked beans.

so different feeling stuffed eating at home - it never feels unclean!

breakfast at le gamin.
croque madame was very un-crisped & too soggy.
my oeuf gamin (poached egg over goat cheese has brown & ratatouille)
was decent - but both were just very mediocre.

oddly, the same le gamin in prospect heights does these differently
and way better.
coffee, btw, is still very good there.

a cold day brunch at jimmy's diner, where we always leave feeling
a little gypped and foolish for paying as much as we do for simple diner food.
i'll pretend that the complimentary donuts (or beignets?) that come
before our meal make up for it.

my cornbread bowl - scrambled egg over corn bread,
and m's "big boy breakfast" - cornbread, sausages, eggs over easy,
pancake & home fries. again they brought home fries, when he asked
for grits.

then dinner (for our anniversary) at samurai mama :

despite their name, the food here is damn good.
we got the chirashi bowl (beautifully put together and tastes great too),
tanuki udon (again a wrong order), and fried chicken.

everything was excellent, but i'd ordered a mushroom udon and
got a tanuki - when asked about this, they suggested to bring a
mushroom topping for us - but in the end, they charged us for the
extra topping. DO NOT LIKE.

because this wasn't enough food for the day, we ended the evening
with this huge spread from van leeuwen :
great, rich intelligentsia americano, chocolate glazed donut,
and their mint chip ice cream all so good!!!

soon dubu & mushroom bibimbap at dokebi.
now a classic combo for us. mm mmmm~

big breakfast at 6 am at home.
baked squash, kale, mushroom, tomatoes with irish cheese & parmesan,
with café au lait and crossword puzzle.
perfect for waking my brain up.

then lunch at ash box - it's such a great place for simple, clean,
but well balanced food.
if that salad (avocado & mushroom) looks huge, it's because it is.
and m's favorite - salami, sundried tomoto & yellow pepper on ciabatta sandwich.

pho bang is always such a reliable place for warm, tasty,
cheap food (although it used to be even cheaper years ago).

my grilled shrimp bún was delicious as always, as well as
the fish & vegetable soup - sour and brothy, so so good!!

rainy, dreary days call for diner food.
second try at garden spot, where the beloved greenpoint coffee house used to be.
this time, i heard about their burgers being good,
so we got a veggie burger & their garden spot burger (bacon burger).

my veggie burger was pretty good, an obviously house-made patty,
with rice, corn, peas, all visible (i hate the mushed up fake soy patties),
definitely one of the best veggie burgers i know.

but their beef burger, ordered medium, was too dry and well-done.
fries looked really good but were also bland, sadly.

veggie burger is the way to go here!

lunch at milk & roses for the first time (other than just coffee).
baked egg with crotonese, tomato & basil,
and a tuna & tomato sandwich.
great bread, good coffee too!

second time visiting cocoron - my favoritest soba place in town now!

tororo soba & stamina sobas afar, and chicken soba m ordered (with
3 kinds of chicken meat that was very delicious),
and my natto (cold) soba : a beautifully curated ensemble that consisted
of pickled daikon, yamaimo, cucumber, bonito flakes atop handmade soba
noodles, with extra toppings of egg & scallions, with the soba sauce.
and all mixed together for eating, it was heavenly.

looks pretty untasty in this photo - but it wasn't too bad.
especially when it's so cold, sometimes, you need a warm (faux) chinese food in your tummy.

chicken with broccoli above, and the really yummy general tso's tofu,
which i failed to take a picture being to busy stuffing my face.

m's version of british fry up brekkie.
chicken sausage, baked beans, eggs over easy, kraut, and toast.
of course it was eaten late at night (my favorite time to eat breakfast).

sometimes i don't know how i'd gone days without a HUGE salad
made with our CSA veggies.

this one was all about the winter purples & greens : beets, purple cabbage,
tatsoi, greens, potatoes, mushrooms, purple onion, ricotta, & smoked
herrings. insanely good, no lie.

our second try at calexico, indeed turned out to be burritos.
their famous carne asada and i got a pollo asado (chicken) burrito.
they were very good, and are the most reasonably priced options there.

but something about their... super hipster douche factor seems to make
it still a pretty unpalatable dining option.
