too lazy to figure out what to it on a rainy day, it's vamos again.
same salad this time (grilled chicken, mango, jicamas on greens)
but molé enchilada that we newly tried - so so so good.
except it's like 2 meals rolled into one, apparently.

an epic post for an epic potluck!

yes we did it again - this time with more food, more people.
i love me some potlucks! this time i took detailed photos.
kind of.

arugula salad & squash soup (AND beer) from nim & philip :

the soup also came with a little pesto of cilantro & garlic as garnish.
perfect.

otsu soba noodles (such good sauce!) & black eyed peas salad from julia :

and matthew's & my quinoa kale pilaf (spun off this recipe) :

sebastian & signe brought amazing meatless black bean balls
with lingonberry jam, the swedish style, and vegan potatoes au gratin :

and time to eat!

for dessert, audrey baked us this special treat for us dietarily
challenged people - vegan, gluten-free shortbread cookies with
grapefruit frosting! O_O
and cara's beautiful strawberries & mint whipped cream.
with signe's mangoes, perfect end to the meal.
my dessert platter. yummy!!

the usual lunch at ash box, and as usual, so so good.
(iced green tea, salmon onigiri with avocado mushroom salad,
and m's salami & sundried tomato sandwich on whole wheat).

and the homemade dinner tonight wasn't too great.
i was experimenting with the newly bought tofu shirataki
noodles, and made a sort of bibim-noodles out of it - mixing
with kale, carrots, baked tofu and fried egg to top.
i should've drained & dried the noodles more.
not sure if i'll try this again but it's a good gluten-free option. :/

but what i made last night was darn good, if i may say so myself!

it's hard to tell, but it's a mixture of roasted yams, kale,
musrooms, tomato, fried eggs, and some tuna atop
very simple, but yummy.

surprising new discovery on montague street, vegetarian ginger.
a chinese (& some thai) vegetarian/vegan restaurant with an
amazing $5.95 lunch deal - we got general tso's soy protein &
citrus soy protein with kale (i can't pass up any kale dish), both of
which came with a bowl of brown red rice (!!) and soup - miso
and hot & sour soups.

we even ventured out to order a cheese cake, which was so tart
and delicious as well. who would've thought?
definitely will return... soon.

breakfast for late late lunch at mike's coffee shop, our old haunt,
where we probably haven't been in a couple years.

salmon & eggs, and steak & eggs, both with grits.
salmon was very mediocre, especially at the same price as the
steak! amazing.
their steak & eggs is probably the best bang for the buck
for any steak around town - great flavor, and their steak sauce
is so good & tart.

dinner get-together at vamos al tequila.
veggie burrito, chicken enchiladas rojas, and my good ol'
grilled chicken & mango salad.

long food & bike day!
lunch specials at mitoushi sushi - chirashi bowl and the
una-don. they were better than some other brooklyn
sushi places, but yeah, we should just ride into east village.

but the olive oil cake from café pedlar (made by frankie 457)
was excellent! well the bite i snuck in sure was good.

then a tempeh & veggies stir fry over 9-grain rice at home.
so so good.

burger night at habitat means we often take advantage of it.
although since i can't really eat the bun, i opt for something else
most of the time - today i chose the mussels and fries,
which were really good. and the good ol' burger.
had wayyyy too much fries, hopefully won't encounter them
for a while.

didn't feel like going far* today in the rain & hail, we ate
some warm, comforting food at dokebi.
soon dubu stew (not pictured) and my mushroom bibimbap.

(* although i have to say that was more than far enough)

quick dinner (kind of) on a dreary evening at seven hills cafe.
chicken adana platter with rice & salad, and a lamb gyro.
we also had a lentil soup that came with giant loaves of bread,
and chocolate pudding for dessert, neither of which i got to document.
too full to talk about it.

in some nonchalant mood for food, except a craving for shrimps,
we ate at shanghai lee yet again. for a chinese takeout type place,
it's not all bad. not like the chinese musician weirdness.
i think it's because they keep it a little on the lighter side with
smaller portions of food.

we got 2 dinner specials, a chicken red curry and shrimp with broccoli.
with brown rice, and sides of hot & sour soup (too salty for me).
satisfied is the word.

a great deal for a burrito, really, tallying up at almost the
same price as their other tasty dishes like the mole chicken.
but it really was delicious - shown here with ground beef and
refried beans.

and of course, my favorite, "mexican salad", with jicamas, mangos
and perfectly grilled chicken.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

brunch at supercore.
the japanese classic again with benitory (shoyu chicken with soft-boiled egg),
and sides of spinach, kimchi, hijiki & brown rice.
the vietnamese chicken sandwich just didn't seem quite vietnamese,
what with the fluffy white bread in lieu of rice flour baguette.
oh well, we should've know better to pick what they do best!

tax paper pick-up day means cho dang gol in ktown!
m got kimchi tofu stew, and i got kimchi kongbiji soup.
their banchan is the best.

riding through the city on this amazing day (sunny 76ºF in march!?!),
we had to get our first iced coffee of the year!
la colombe, of course, does it best :
