happy new year!!! we welcomed 2013 with our very first lunch special deal at menkuitei (where we've been going for almost 10 years). their lunch combo came with gyozas, half-sized ramen of choice, and a choice or either fried rice or curry rice. i got 'menkui' ramen (seaweed broth) with fried rice, and m got our favorite, shoyu ramen, with curry rice. surprisingly, the bit surprise hit was the fried rice, which we never get even when given the option most of the time. it was so subtly flavored but so well done. reminded me a little of the young chow fried rice i grew up eating.
