dinner at tepango - m got an enchilada platter & i got a torta tinga (chipotle chicken sandwich).
the enchilada was said to be mediocre, but my torta was so so good!
definitely better than the ones at castros.

another warm/hot day (though not as bad as some other 100ºF days), too warm for cooking,
and craving mexican food, we went to castros (instead of tepango we've been frequenting - to
avoid stomach ache that comes with their food). i got their fish tacos for the first time, and m
got a ground beef burrito. both were excellent, though my fish tacos definitely were nowhere
near as tasty or big as the ones at rockaway (or in cali for that matter, i suppose).

then for late dinner, veggie cleaning time :

quick steamed baby broccoli dressed with a concoction of fish sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, sambal, and then our left over big salad of greens (kale, lettuce, yukina), topped with carrots, cucumber, walnuts and 3 big over-easy eggs oozing all over.
such a great, satisfying, yet light, late night food!

tortas are definitely the things to get at tepango - we ordered a tinga (their chipotle chicken)
and a carne asada. they're both good, but man, is their chicken tinga amazing!!!
it does come at a price - stomach upset! :(

late lunch at tepango - wanting to try something different, we ordered a carne asada
steak platter and a chipotle chicken burrito.
the steak was good but a bit dry and too welldone for both our tastes.
the chipotle chicken burrito was good but also thought was way better in the torta form.
it wasn't the best from them, but still pretty cheap, so can't complain.

a nice, grey, cool day - a good day for sketching and reading with a cookie,
beer and an iced coffee. bedford hill coffee bar was very cute, until it started
getting crowded and the people behind me were talking my ears off.

so we headed off to fill our bellies with yummy food :

tepango, along with castros, is one of the rare NYC mexican places that
give you a complimentary bowl of chips & salsa before you order.
(of course, very different from the cal mex style chips & salsa, or their food,
for that matter)

m got a huge burrito with spicy pork, which had pineapples inside with the meat!
and i got my usual crack torta with tinga (chipotle chicken). i really don't know what
they do with that, but whatever it is, i like it. damn it's just so good.
puts the castro's version to shame, making it look like some soft marshmallow puff.

cheap mexican lunch at tepango - our first time, and it was super janky inside,
and just as i suspected from the looks of it, everything was so yummy.
m got a cecina (salty beef) burrito & i got huevos rancheros - and their salsa verde
was so fresh and amazing, we finished the whole bowl!

mmm tepango does it again - i can never pass up their tinga (chipotle chicken) torta,
it's just too good. and m tried their mole poblano chicken, which seemed pretty dang good too.

a turbulent weather day! with our aunt visiting in town, we walked all the way from
brooklyn, over the brooklyn bridge (though i insisted on a photo of manhattan bridge
up there) into chinatown, to east village, then to west village, to the hudson!

we finally got to try bluebird sky, which we never do since we opt for chinese/vietnamese food
when we're in chinatown. the omelets we got was cooked perfectly - fluffy and seasoned well - though i didn't really care for all the chips that were on the shoulders of those behind the counter.

then after we dragged our exhausted legs home, we took a short walk to castro
for some late night dinner - marty got a fish quesadilla (i was very curious to see this),
i got my usual grilled chicken torta, and m got a giant burrito with chicken tinga.
torta was good, though not as flavorful or hefty as the one at tepango.
burrito was really good as well - the fish quesadilla was interesting! slight saltiness of
the fish with the cheese oozing out!
